Stop Blaming Mark for your Weight Loss Battles
“Who the heck is Mark? What are you talking about, Lucy?” I hear you say with a confused look on your face. Hang on, and I’ll explain.
Do you, remember that time when your diet was going so well, and you’d lost some weight and went down a dress size?
Or maybe you were only four days into your diet but felt, “Yeah, I’ve got this now, this time I’m gonna stick with it. I’m super motivated.”
Well, at least you were on track until you ate that cake that your mother-in-law baked and she knew it was your favourite, how were you meant to resist?
The diet was going so great until Mark (here’s Mark) bought you a third large glass of wine. Why would he do that? I told him I’m on a diet.
Mark could be your mate Jane or your colleague Fiona. Why did they order all those extra sides off the menu, I hate waste, and now I’ve gone and eaten all those fries.
Mark could be your husband, your boyfriend, who arrived home with a candy bar for you which you ate. And now you’re in a mood with him, and he has no idea why. He’s meant to be supporting you on your diet, not sabotaging it, right?
The kids left half their dinner, so you ate it rather than throwing it away.
Been there, bought the doughnut! Yeah, literally, bought a doughnut and scoffed it.
Mark Doesn’t have to be a Person
“I would start my diet, but next weekend is a bank holiday. The following Friday is the last in the month, so it’s drinks after work. Oh and the weekend after that is Sally’s birthday, and we always go for a Chinese.
So no point starting a diet. I’ll start the second week in August or maybe the 1st September. Yeah, I often start a diet on a Monday or the 1st of the month.”
Hey, this is gonna sound obvious but to start losing weight, well, you gotta get started.
The time is NOW. What’s wrong with starting now? Life is changeable; there’ll always be a last minute invitation, a party, a work’s do… That’s why I never start a diet in January.
I guess you probably already know where I’m going with this. Mark is your excuse, your someone or something to blame.
You have to take responsibility for your actions – leave Mark out of it :-).
