Ditch the Diet Mindset
Have you ever said to yourself, “I just need to lose this weight then it’ll be easier for me to maintain and I’ll be so much more confident and happier?
And if I do put on a few pounds after a vacation or during Christmas it’ll be no problem to get it off again ’cause I can do that 3-day detox diet I tore out of a magazine last year. It’s my go-to quick fix diet.”
Do you see what you just did there – you’re still in the diet mindset. You haven’t even lost the weight, and you’re already planning your relapse and how to fix it.
STOP it! – Sorry, I don’t mean to shout; I just want to get through to you there’s an easier way.
Ditch the diet mindset.
I’m not promising you’ll lose 10Ibs in one week though I know that’s what you want to hear, right?
However, I do promise doable methods that you can incorporate into your everyday life and free yourself of fretting over your weight.
Yes, how cool would that be? Free yourself from that nagging conversation in your head; “If I could just lose a few pounds, I’ll feel so much better, then I can ……”
Clear your Head and Get on with your Life
Ditch the diet, clear your head then get on with your life. That’s what I did and oh, what a relief; yay no more dieting. Free to pursue my passions.
Well, when I say no more dieting, I mean no more restricting your food intake or your intake of certain foods.
I looked up the word ‘diet’; one definition is ‘the usual drinks and foods consumed by a person’. So if you think about it that way, you’re kind of on a continual diet anyhow.
‘Whaaat? but you just told me to ditch the diet mindset.’ Yes, I did.
But my point is, you’ll always have to make choices about what foods and drinks to include in your everyday ‘diet’. You decide the ‘usual drinks and foods’ you consume.
You control your diet so for starters, incorporate a few healthy choices.
Restrict the Restrictions
The best way I’ve found to improve my diet for weight loss is to restrict the restrictions. Basically to stop following strict diets.
Going on ‘a restrictive diet’ does just that, it forces a load of restrictions on you and your lifestyle all at once.
BAM – no bread, no sweets, carbs or wine for a month… Whoa, now I’m craving all that stuff!
Wouldn’t you rather slip in one or two healthier habits and add to them as you go along, so they become your new habits? Gradually training your body to want, even crave, healthy foods.
If you think you might struggle with this then here’s an Easy Guide to Starting a Healthy Eating Plan.
